PRINCE WILLIAM SOUND

Prince William Sound NOT TO BE USED FOR NAVIGATION

Few places in the world are as extravagantly beautiful biologically productive as Alaska’s Prince William Sound.  Protected from the stormy Gulf of Alaska by the barrier islands and mountains of the Chugach National Forest,  the Sound’s magnificent coastline is a twisting labyrinth of fjords, bays, passages, river deltas, and estuaries where tidewater glaciers plunge dramatically from snow-topped mountains cloaked in spruce and hemlock to the sea. The Sound is 10,000 square miles in size and contains 3,500 miles of convoluted shoreline, thousands of freshwater streams and waterfalls, more than 150 glaciers, 34 major islands, and hundreds of islets.
